2004 First Quarter Results

1st quarter clips were judged by the staff at the Reno (NV) Gazette-Journal. Tim Dunn, photo editor, Scott Sady, assistant photo director, Liz Margerum, Andy Barron, Marilyn Newton, and Candice Towell. Published seven days per week with a 70,000 circulaton.

Judges Comments: First place photo captures the drama of the scene. Second place shot very dramatic, well composed. Third place we liked the moment and the composition. HM was a very tender moment.

Judges comments: Comments: No obvious winner in the category. 1st- photog had good patience to make this work. 2nd- great angle, good moment. 3rd funny photo. HM1- good lighting, good initiative. HM2- funny

Judges Comments:Comments: 1st- Great angle, great moment, great exposure! Photog went to a lot of trouble and it paid off. 2nd- funny moment. 3rd- Also a strong moment. HM-Very good action.

Judges comments: Comments:1st- Fabulous shot. No contest for first place. 2nd- No place to turn for this losing player. 3rd- Ouch- a painful moment- is no way to treat a winner. Different photo.

Judges comments: Comments: 1st- incredible detail and texture. 2nd- Stunning color. 3rd- Beautiful setting and composition. The person in the photo, though small, makes it work. HM1- Very eye-catching photo great symmetry. HM2- Cool moment. Nice composition.

Judges comments: Comments: 1st- What a great package. Each photo is very skillfully done. Great variety. 2nd- Excellent job of finding beautiful photos just by paying attention to detail. Lovely texture and design. 3rd- Adorable. Clever idea, well executed. HM- Nice moments.

Judges comments:Comments:1st- Once we figured out what the story was about, this won out. 2nd-Compelling story. Judges did not feel any other entries merited award recognition. In the two winning entries, layout hurt, rather than enhanced, the photos.
